Cardinal Pell cleared from sexual abuse charges, released from jail

Cardinal George Pell, ex-Vatican treasurer has been freed from jail and cleared off earlier sexual abuse charges labeled against him after Australia’s highest court rescinded the charges on Tuesday  April 6.

An earlier Jury in 2018 indicated he abused two boys in private rooms in St  Patrick’s Cathedral in the 1990s in Melbourne while he was Archbishop of the Jurisdiction.
He conviction comprised one count of sexual penetration and four other counts on indecent acts.

The prelate had always maintained his innocence even during the infancy stage of the trial.
In an earlier statement after the former decision, Cardinal Pell stated “I have consistently maintained my innocence while suffering from a serious injustice”.

Relatives of the deceased choir boy were in shock at the decision, counsel for the defense stated.

On the part of Australian authorities, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said "the High Court has made its decision and that must be respected."
He also added "thoughts [were] always with" survivors of abuse, for whom "mere discussion of these topics brings back great hurt".
